Valentine Brunch Ideas
Since Valentine’s Day fell during the week this year you may not have had time to make any Valentine’s treats on the actual day. With the weekend coming, try these Valentine Brunch ideas for your family.
Even with Valentine’s Day over, you can always spread a little extra love with your family!
Heart Shaped French Toast
Get a heart-shaped cookie cutter, and four slices of bread. Cut a heart out of the center of each slice of bread. (You can save those little hearts and toast them and put a dollop of jelly on each one and use as garnish. But the part you are really interested in is the full slice, crust and all.)
Grab four eggs. Melt a little butter over medium heat in a skillet. Put two slices of bread down in the butter. Crack an egg over each heart-shaped hole. When the egg gets firm, flip over. Cook for a minute or two more, till the yolk is no longer runny (unless you like it a little runny). Repeat with other two pieces of bread and those leftover eggs.
Dessert of Love
Combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water and the zest of 1/2 lemon in a medium saucepan. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Then stir in 3/4 pound of pitted cherries. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes. stir in two pears that have been peeled and sliced and simmer for 5 more minutes. Spread two big, fat slices of pound cake with butter and toast till they are golden brown. Generously spoon with fruit and juices over the cake. Serve warm, topped with a big ol’ dollop of whipped cream.
Yields 2 servings
Fill a pitcher with hibiscus, lemon and strawberry juice. Slice limes, toss in. Fill with crushed ice. Mmm…. Serve in tall glasses.
