Severe Weather/Storm Prepartion Info
If you're new to Texas or are just not quite sure what to do and where to go in the event of severe weather, then please read on, it could save your life! Please see these valuable resources for more information: American Red Cross, National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center website and your city's website. Cities in our area fortunately have an Outdoor Warning System to alert its city population about severe weather approaching. The PA (public announcement) System can also broadcast messages, such as an evacuation, in the event of an emergency or severe weather. You can learn more about your city's Outdoor Warning System by visiting your city's website. Frisco's website gives a good explanation of what the different siren sounds mean. If you are afraid you may not awakened by the local siren announcements there is a way to be alerted by phone. When severe weather warnings are issued in your area, The Weather Channel alerts you by phone. There is a small fee for the service but worth it if you are worried you will not hear the sirens.
This information is courtesy of the American Red Cross: Prepare a Home Tornado Plan - Pick a place where family members could gather if a tornado is headed your way. It could be your basement or, if there is no basement, a center hallway, bathroom, or closet on the lowest floor. Keep this place uncluttered.
- If you are in a high-rise building, you may not have enough time to go to the lowest floor. Pick a place in a hallway in the center of the building.
