Cottonwood Nature Trail

The Cottonwood Trail is 1.5 mile, rustic wood chip trail.

There are two trail heads that hikers can access; the first is located across the street from the Cottonwood Sports Complex.  The second is located at the end of Hardwick Lane.  Starting at either trail head, hikers can navigate the entire trail system and numerous lake access points.

The trail guides hikers through one of the most pristine park areas
.  This trail is heavily canopied along the lake, leading into an open field of cedar trees.

Dinosaur Valley State Park

Address: The park is located 4 miles west of Glen Rose. Take US Highway 67 to FM 205 for 4 miles to Park Road 59; then go one mile to the headquarters

Dinosaur Valley State Park, located just northwest of Glen Rose in Somervell County, is a 1524.72-acre, scenic park set astride the Paluxy River. The land for the park was acquired from private owners under the State Parks Bonds Program during 1968 and opened to the public in 1972.

Eisenhower State Park, with 423.1 acres, is located in Grayson County, northwest of Denison on the shores of Lake Texoma.  Some of the activities include picnicking, hiking, biking, nature study, fishing, boating and boat rentals, water skiing, swimming, wildlife observation, ATV and mini bike use (OHV permit required), and a variety of camping.

The preserve offers an Interpretive Center with a nature education library, which is open for scheduled classes and hikes. Trails are open for hikes 365 days a year from dawn to dusk. A pond, environmental education classes and more are offered at the facility. Space in classes is extremely limited and because of their popularity they fill up quickly.

Frisco Hiking Trails

Beaver Bend Trail Extension - This 1.2 mile trail is an extension to the current trail located in Beavers Bend Neighborhood Park. The trail winds around a pond and features a second playground structure alongside the trail. The trail currently extends from Beavers Bend Park to 4th Army Road which connects to B.F. Phillips Community Park. The connection of the trail into B.F. Phillips will take place with the completion of future Phases of the Community Park.

Caddo Trail - This one mile hike and bike system is located along Stewart Creek, just to the south of Stonebrook Parkway and will extend through the Chapel Creek development and connect into the city's neighborhood park lying adjacent to Spears Elementary School.

College Parkway Trail - This 1.2 mile trail will provide linkage along the TXU easement that runs from College Parkway northward to and past Rolater Road. Once completed, this linkage will provide connection from the Preston Ridge Campus of CCCCD, Shawnee Trail Sports Complex, Shawnee Trail Elementary School, Centennial High School, Wester Middle School, Gunstream Elementary School and Shepherds Glen Park.

Griffin Parc Trail - Located within the Griffin Parc Development, a series of public hike and bike trails that lie within the subdivision and provide a linkage from just west of Legacy Parkway to Teel Parkway.

Lone Star Ranch Trail - Located within the Lone Star Ranch Development, a series of public hike and bike trails that lie within the subdivision providing a linkage from Fourth Army Memorial Drive to Southwest Community Park to a future FISD school site to the interior of the development.

Taychas Trail (formerly West Rowlett Creek Trail) - Located along the West Rowlett Creek corridor traveling north from Isabel Elementary School to Rolater Road, the first phase of the trail will be approximately one mile in distance.

Trails Of West Frisco Trail - Located within the Trails of West Frisco Development, a series of public hike and bike trails that lie within both interior to the subdivision as well as the perimeter of the development. This system provides a linkage from Teel Parkway and FM 720 northward along to Teel Parkway to Cottonwood Creek and will ultimately tie northward to Eldorado Parkway.

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge lies on the Big Mineral Arm of Lake Texoma, on the Red River between Oklahoma and Texas. Established in 1946, the refuge includes 3,000 acres of marsh and water and 8,000 acres of upland and farmland. 

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

The Heard Museum is a non-profit organization located in McKinney. It includes attractions such as Nature Trails, Exhibits, Bird Sanctuary, Native Plant Garden and more.

The Heard's indoor exhibits provide an interactive environment in which visitors can discover, enjoy and experience various aspects of the Texas natural environment. There are several permanent collections as well as rotating collections.

Lake Ray Roberts State Park

Situated along the shores of a 30,000-acre reservoir Ray Roberts Lake State Park Complex consists of 2 state park units (Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch), 6 satellite parks, Wildlife Management Areas, wetlands, waterfowl sanctuaries and the 20 mile Ray Roberts Lake/Lake Lewisville Greenbelt Corridor.

Birdwatching, water sports, riding horses or backpacking along a scenic trail, Ray Roberts has something for everyone. 

Leonard Park

Leonard Park includes an awesome playground and hosts the Frank Buck Zoo. The park features the Frankie Schmitz Express Miniature Train Ride. The Frankie Schmitz Express is a 1/4-size replica of an 1800s steam engine train.  The train takes riders around Leonard Park and lasts about fifteen minutes.

Tandy Hills Natural Area

Tandy Hills Natural Area is a 160 acre indigenous remnant of prairie located in the heart of Fort Worth, Texas. The land was obtained by the City of Fort Worth Parks Department in the 1960's and designated a natural area in 1987. The park is managed by the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge.

Windmill Hill Nature Preserve

Windmill Hill Nature Preserve is 75 acres of land, set aside by the City of DeSoto and Dallas County as a nature preserve. Nestled in woods providing shade in the summer, there is a great hiking trail with gentle slopes and some very steep hills, which can provide a challenge at times.
